Life as a believer in Jesus, single mompreneur….and everything in between
“Do you not know that the runners in a stadium all race, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. “Now everyone who competes exercises self-control in everything. However, they do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one. 1 Corinthians 9:24-25(NIV). I remember in 5th grade when a group of my friends and I would race each other during recess. We had to see who was the fastest of the bunch. Back then I had a lot more physical stamina, and I was a lot faster than I looked. I was the victor in more than a few of those races. I remember I would have to dig in and focus on the goal. While I was running my opponent was no longer a factor; it was just me and the finish line. I was ecstatic when I won because I had bragging rights; I got my crown. As a grown up(or at least striving to be)Christian, I’m still running, but this time it’s a different kind of race. If you are also called by His name then you’re on that same track. We run this race not for schoolyard bragging rights; we run this race to see our Jesus face to face. We want to receive the crown of life and be presented as heirs, joint heirs and bask in His glory. The question we need to ask ourselves is are we running our race with the same endurance we did during 5th grade recess? Are we as committed to staying the course and crossing that finish line? Are we truly focused on the goal or are we focusing on our competitor and the distractions(the crowd) around us. In these times it’s so easy to get distracted and lose sight of why we’re running. The noise around us can drown out the Voice of our Greatest Cheerleader. We can get caught up and consumed by the forces working around and against us. In just trying to “make it” we can take our eyes off the prize. If we want to endure, thrive and ultimately win, we have to run surrounded by our Heavenly Coach, the Most High God. As scary as it is, when we let Him into the places where we feel most defeated, most worn out, His Power will overtake that weakness. His Holy Presence will engulf and sustain us. If we’re racing towards a Heavenly Prize how can we expect anything earthly to sustain us. We also need to take “pit stops” and renew our minds. As we meditate on God’s Word it will eventually replace the areas that trip us up while running our race. It will replenish us as we build our faith. As it says in Isaiah 40:31- “but those who trust in the LORD will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.”(NIV). Run your race to win! Let’s take it to the Lord in prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being faithful, kind and ever present in our lives. We ask You to give us strength and wisdom to run this race. As we focus on You and renew our minds, give us the endurance we need to cross that finish line. We love and praise You. In the Name of Jesus we pray, Amen. Remember to pray over your own specific needs in this area today. Love and Blessings!
